Bexar County Emergency Services District 5 (ESD 5) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Fire Chief to lead our fire department. We operate out of four fire stations on the southwest side of Bexar County covering approximately 130 square miles, serving unincorporated areas and responding to 4,300 emergency calls annually. Our team consists of 35 paid firefighters, 18 paid officers, and 2 administrative staff.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

As Fire Chief, you will oversee all fire department operations, including emergency response, personnel management, budgeting, and community relations. This is a leadership role requiring strategic decision-making and operational expertise.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and manage fire suppression, emergency response, and safety programs Supervise, train, and support career and volunteer firefighters and officers Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and administrative duties

Engage with the community and local agencies to promote fire safety Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal fire safety regulations

QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years of fire service experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role Certification as a Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Officer II (preferred)

EMT-B or higher medical certification (preferred)

Strong knowledge of fire department budgeting and operations

and policies

Experience working with Emergency Services Districts (ESD's) is a plus
